Charlie and Mike are on the move. The first leg of the journey took us through Dubuque, Iowa to the Coffey Farm near Blanchardville, Wisconsin.
Had a quick lunch on the way at the Crust in Dubuque. Great meatball sandwich and pizza.
There is a nice book store in Dubuque known as the Rivers Light Bookstore.
Across the street is Jitterz Cafe. Great coffees and teas! Plus 15% off for buying a book at the bookstore.
Stopped at the Dickeyville, Wisconsin Grotto on the way to Blanchardville.
Here is the old family diary farm overlooking Yellowstone Lake near Blanchardville, Wisconsin. Charlie's great grandparents were dairy farmers from Germany.
Many of the Coffey ancestors are laid to rest at St. Michael's Catholic Church also overlooking Yellowstone Lake. It looks the same as when Mike would attend mass fifty years ago.
Next stop was in Mount Vernon, Wisconsin. The other side of the family, the Foyes, have their pioneer farm near here.
John and Mary Foye came to Wisconsin from Quebec, Canada. John was born in Maine and Mary was born in Canada. They settled in the Mount Vernon area around Statehood timeframe. This is Charlie's great great great great gandparent's tombstone.
Once we got into downtown Madison and got parked near State Street and campus, we hiked up to the apartment that Melody and Mike lived in when they first got married.
Had to hit the used bookstores along State Street before supper. Mike found a book on how to raise chickens in the city, one of his pending retirement projects.
